Every morning, before the shelves are stocked and the doors open, there’s already a lot happening behind the scenes at Sun City Supermarket.
For Rohil Chaudhari, Managing Director of Sun City Supermarket, serving the people of Taveuni has become much more than running a business. It’s about making sure families, businesses, and communities across the island have access to the products and services they need.
From supermarkets in Naqara, Wairiki, and Matei, to delivering groceries and building materials around the island, Rohil has spent years building a business designed around the needs of the community.
But the journey wasn’t always smooth.
“There were challenges along the way,” he reflects. “Like any business owner, I’ve had difficult times. But those experiences taught me valuable lessons and helped shape who I am today.”
He credits much of his success to the people around him.
“I’ve been blessed with a strong support system and a community that continues to support us. Without them, none of this would be possible.”
That community focus continues to drive every investment he makes.
Rohil wants Taveuni residents to have access to the same products, services and conveniences enjoyed on the mainland. To make that possible, Sun City has developed its own logistics network, operating two 12-wheeler trucks and a refrigerated truck that transport goods from Suva to Taveuni.
“We’re always looking at ways to improve what we offer. We want our customers to feel the benefits and know they don’t have to leave the island to access quality products and services.”
Today, Sun City delivers groceries throughout Taveuni and supplies building materials to homes, contractors and businesses across the island.
More recently, Rohil has started looking towards a more sustainable future.
Through financing from Merchant Finance, Sun City invested in an electric vehicle, marking the company’s first step towards reducing its environmental impact.
“This is our first sustainable step towards a greener environment,” he says. “The vehicle has helped improve efficiency and reduce operating costs, but it also represents something bigger. It’s about caring for the environment while continuing to serve our people.”
The EV has quickly become a familiar sight on Taveuni’s roads, quietly travelling between communities as Sun City continues to grow.
Behind the business is a team of 38 employees, 70 percent of whom are women.
For Rohil, that’s something he’s especially proud of.
“Our people are our greatest asset. I’m proud to lead a team where women play such an important role in our success. They’re helping drive the business forward every day.”
While Sun City has expanded over the years, Rohil says growth has never been about numbers alone.
His vision is bigger than supermarkets, trucks or deliveries.
“My hope is that as our business grows, our staff grow, their families grow, and the wider community grows with us. Everything we do is about creating opportunities and contributing to the future of Taveuni.”
Because for Rohil, success isn’t measured by how far his business has come.
It’s measured by how many people it helps along the way.
