Job Description

The Collection Officer is an integral role in the success of the Branch. They are hired for delivery of MFL strategic goals and to inform customers of their overdue accounts and attempt to collect payment to mitigate company losses.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Effectively manage the collection of loan repayments within the branch portfolio.
  • Administer and implement MFL debt recovery process
  • Providing timely assistance and feedback to Credit Officers and Branch Managers on related   matters.
  • Collection of arrears for those accounts overdue plus rehabilitation of the accounts to bring them back to order on a permanent basis. This includes the collection of late chargers.
  • Initiate bailiff action, collection, repossession of overdue accounts, on approval. Approval from a higher authority is required to activate this type of action.
  • Ensure compliance in matters pertaining to Risk & Compliance issues.
  • Assist Lending Officers & Team Leaders with annual credit reviews.
  • Liaise with Lending Officers, Collections Officers, and Branch Managers with regards to customers’ accounts.
  • Responsible for the effective application of controls and governance with acceptable risk levels.

To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Diploma or higher qualification in Accounting and Finance or equivalent.
  • Good communication skills – both oral and written, as well as a pleasant voice for effective communication.
  • At least 2-year experience in a similar position or similar organization.
  • Able to work cohesively in a team structure, work under pressure and achieve targets 
  • Diplomatic style to drive collaboration in a multi-stakeholder environment; 
  • Other vernacular would be an advantage.
