Job Description

Merchant Finance PTE Limited (MFL) is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented individual to join our team as a Data Analyst. This entry-level role provides analytical and reporting support to assist Management and business units in making informed decisions. The role works closely with the Data and Insights Manager to ensure data accuracy, integrity and timely reporting across the organisation.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Support the credit risk and lending teams by extracting, cleaning, and analyzing data from internal systems.
  • Prepare daily/weekly/monthly performance reports, dashboards, and KPI summaries
  • Assist in monitoring portfolio risk metrics such as delinquency rates, default trends, and credit scoring model outputs.
  • Conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies in borrower and portfolio behavior.
  • Maintain and update SQL queries, data pipelines, and automated reporting scripts.
  • Ensure data accuracy, completeness, and integrity across operational and analytical datasets.
  • Collaborate with finance, credit, collections, and compliance teams to gather requirements and provide data-driven insights.
  • Assist in preparing regulatory or board-level reports as required.
  • Document analytical processes, data definitions, and reporting standards to support internal knowledge management.

To be considered, you must meet the following requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Information Systems, or a related quantitative field.
  • Strong foundation in statistics, data analysis, and basic data modeling concepts.
  • Solid knowledge of SQL for data extraction and manipulation.
  • Experience building dashboards or automated reports in tools such Power BI, or Tableau.
  • Basic understanding of Python or R for data cleaning and analysis (preferred but not mandatory).
  • Understanding of financial concepts such as credit risk, loan portfolios, write-offs, and provisioning (advantageous).
  • Strong analytical thinking, attention to detail, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to communicate findings clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
